11/03/07 - Wycombe first team stop top of the league Reading Womens' unbeaten record! Print E-mail

Wycombe produced one of there best performances ever this Sunday by holding Reading Women to a 0-0 draw. This is the first points that they have dropped this season, and could well be their only points dropped, by the Berkshire club.
With both teams short of any games over the past month, it was therefore not surprising that the game got off to a slow start. The first half was mainly a midfield encounter with Kirsty and Charlie coping well with there counter parts. Goalkeeper Katie got injured after landing on her arm after making an excellent save but with a possible broken hand, bravely played on.
The second half began with Reading playing a high tempo game trying to score that all important first goal. The Wycombe defence and goalkeeper coped well under the pressure but eventually a Reading striker got through, and after an initial save, managed to take the ball around Wycombe's keeper. An open goal was there for the taking but right back Jodie Taylor managed to block the shot and to everyone's relief, keep Wycombe in the game. As the half developed Wycombe midfield began to grow in confidence and tried to play in the opposition's half. Leah Asante came very close to giving Wycombe an unthinkable lead, while Reading were still coming forward and had some chances themselves .This was an all round team performance and hopefully we can build on this and take the high spirits away next week when Wycombe visit Shanklin, despite missing some key players due to injury.
FINAL SCORE: WWLFC 0 READING WOMENS 0
Managers POM: KIrsty Manning
