Wycombe travelled to top of the league Reading on Sunday, and with only 12 players available the job was always going to be tough. After only 20mins Wycombe lost centre back Hazel who was taken to hospital to have stitches in her head after a challenge with a Reading player in the air. This meant substitute Kirsty came on in Hazel's place. For the first 44 minutes Wycombe held out with some great all round defending and organising. The breakthrough came in the last moment of the half when a fine run and finish from the Reading player put them one up at halftime. The second half began much better for Wycombe and actually had two good chances to equalise. Eventually up popped Twiggy to score her first goal for her new club.
Wycombe needed to keep the score level for as long as possible to maybe put some doubt into the oppositions, but Reading came straight back and scored a spectacular 25yard volley. From this point Reading gained the ascendancy, while Wycombe seemed to lose confidence, and the opposition wrapped up the game with two more goals. Coach Graham believes that the players should take great pride from the performance, and realise that they need to be strong as team together in order to progress in this league.
On a better note, it is hoped that Sophie will return to training after breaking her arm, and Katie Hudson also looks set to return.
FINAL SCORE: WWLFC 1 READING WOMEN 4
Managers POM: Twiggy
