For the second time in 6 weeks Wycombe travelled to Slough ladies, this time for the second qualifying round of the F.A. CUP and came away with a win and therefore reaching the first round proper for the first time in our history.
But that doesn't really tell the story. Slough dominated possession in the first half, mounting several attacks from all areas of there midfield, causing the Wycombe defence to work constantly to keep them out. It was perhaps with little surprise that they did eventually score, but to everyones astonishment, it was an own goal scored by our captain of the day Charlotte Snow, whose previous club was, you guessed it Slough.
Half time could not come quick enough. The girls regrouped, pushed up the pitch and for 20mins had a real go at Slough. This eventually paid off when Su was making a run down the left side, cut in and was brought down in the box. She stepped up and hit it straight down the middle, although the Slough keeper made a succesfull save initialy, she was unable to keep hold of the ball and Su was able to score form the rebound. The game became very intense and physical with both teams looking for a win.
Wycombe's goalkeeper Sam, was on exceptional form, saving several times and keeping Wycombe in the game right till the end of the second half. After 90 minutes the score was level at 1-1 and so went into extra time, where both teams battled on to keep the scoreline even at 1-1 after extra time.
In an amazing penalty shoot out Slough missed three of there penalties. Wycombe missed two out of there first four which left Centre Back Hazel Knight the chance to score to send Wycombe into the first round, she duly obliged and sent all the players into great celebration.
This was a great match, and continued Wycombe's amazing run of still being unbeaten this year.
