Wycombe entertained Burnham in the first round of the league cup, with only 11 players available, coach graham Malcolm knew this would be a difficult game.

Wycombe got off to the best start possible when after only 9 minutes Heather Sutchins broke through to score a great individual goal, the game was a very even contest at this point and it was no great surprise when Burnham equalised with a long range shot. Both teams continued to press and Wycombe were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Su Oakley but amazingly shot wide.

The second half saw a much better performance from the girls. They were a little quicker to the ball and began to make inroads towards the Burnham goal. Two quick goals one from su driving in to prod past the oncoming goalkeeper, and a second goal from Heather Scutchins who drove in from the right hand side and lobbed the keeper.

Then with 18 minutes to go a nasty collision between captain Esther Morley and fullback Jodie Taylor, resulting in Esther having to leave the pitch suffering with an obvious head injury, left Wycombe with 10 players to hold out. With some good defensive work from Hazel and Su and great work rate from Heather and Charlie, this was achieved.
