Wycombe produced their shock result of the season this weekend, beating Bracknell for the first time in 4 years. The game was marred by a terrible injury to a Bracknell player 5 seconds into the game. The player appeared to twist her knee very badly, unchallenged. The game was delayed for 45 minutes as an ambulance was called to take her to hospital. All at Wycombe wish her a speedy recovery. The game restarted at 2.45 and for most of the half was a very scrappy affair. Bracknell, as always, were looking dangerous from set pieces, hitting the cross bar from a long range free-kick early on. Midway into the first half, coach Graham Malcolm made a tactical change, switching the Wycombe wingers. It was from this that Wycombe broke the deadlock, with the outstanding Tasha Smith exploiting the space down the right wing to latch onto a through ball which was completely missed by the on-rushing keeper. A simple tap-in was all that was required for her to record her first senior goal. The second half was a completely different affair with Wycombe producing their best half of football this season. With an increase in tempo, it was clear from the off Wycombe were not willing to throw their lead away. Within 2 minutes of the restart Hannah Wilson threaded a delightful ball to Su, who smashed it into the top corner. Within 10 minutes of that goal, Su turned provider and found Tasha who, from the angle, calmly finished to make it 3-0. Su, Hannah and Tasha linked up well throughout the match, playing some delightful football. Several chances were created and the scoreline could have been greater in Wycombes favour. One more goal in the way of a free-kick driven in by Sophie Bowden which Su flicked, with a backwards header, into the back of the net. 4-0. Bracknell tried to get a goal back but this was one clean sheet the firm Wycombe defence were adamant on keeping. An amazing all round performance by the team. P.O.M NATASHA SMITH Coaches Comments: - "This is such a pleasing result for the players who thoroughly deserved this win. We were strong in all areas today. We will need to take this form and confidence on to Slough next week." |
