Wycombe entertained Launton for the third time this season in the opening round of the League Cup. With honours even, it was anyone's game. The first half saw Wycombe going close on several occasions but somehow could not manage to put the ball in the back of the net. With Tasha Smith terrorising the Launton defence, linking up well Su, and Launton sending a good chance over the bar, it was surprising to see the half end 0-0. The second half was easily Wycombe's best second half performance of the season - with a notable improvement in fitness, scoring 3 second half goals and conceding zero goals! Wycombe took control of the game, imposing themselves on Launton, with Charlee and Hazel dominating the centre of midfield, Twiggy and Su linking well up front, and defensively, reducing Launton to very few attempts on goal with Katie Hudson playing exceptionally well at right back. The opening goal came from a Twiggy trade mark free kick, hit perfectly into the top right hand corner, leaving the keeper rooted to the ground. The second and third goals were soon to follow by Su lobbing the keeper from a Twiggy through ball, and a close range finish from a goal mouth scramble, respectively. Launton did go very close on two occasions only for their sub to fire over the crossbar. Wycombe continued to play some neat football while trying to add to their goal tally. Twiggy came closest to scoring after being put through by Su, but was unable to get power behind her shot. The game ended 3-0 with Wycombe progressing to the next round. P.O.M Katie Hudson Coaches Comments - "I believe the team are making great strides forward. This game, perhaps 18 months ago, we would not have won. We still showed all the commitment needed at this level and are beginning to, in patches, play some decent football". |
