Wycombe entertained Slough this weekend off the back of lasts weeks 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bracknell.  These games, both home and away, are always 'sights to behold' with the rivalry increasing every season.  To be honest, Wycombe had nothing to lose - with Slough being one of the leagues strongest teams, unbeaten all season, sitting 2nd in the league; for sure, the odds were stacked against them.

Despite these ever increasing odds, Wycombe rose to the occasion and shocked the opposition by coming away with a well deserved point from an enthralling 3-3 draw.

As is always the case in these games, it was end-to-end, high tempo football.  Slough broke the dead-lock with a great finish leaving the Wycombe girls somewhat stunned after such a great start.  Wycombe responded positively and within 5 minutes were rewarded with an equaliser from a looping shot by the outstanding Charlee.  1-1

For the next 10 minutes Slough showed why they are serious league contenders with fast, incisive football as they searched for more goals.  However, in this emphatic end-to-end encounter, it was Wycombe who took the lead from a precisely delivered corner by Twiggy for Sophie to meet with a powerful, unstoppable header past the stranded Slough keeper.  2-1.

Wycombes lead was short lived as Slough popped up with an equaliser from a free-kick midway inside the Wycombe half.  2-2.  And again, just short of the half-time whistle, Slough grabbed one more goal for the half to end 2-3.

Slough  had the advantage of the wind in the 2nd half but were unable to make it count, nor breakdown the Wycombe defence.

As the half went on, Wycombe grew in confidence and when Twiggy smashed the ball against the crossbar the girls knew they were still in the game.  Coach Graham made a switch, moving Twiggy into a more central role and Leah onto the wing.  This proved to be an important move as Twiggy, from a well delivered free kick by Esther, found herself unmarked in the 18 yard box, to PASS the ball into the goal levelling the score .  3-3.

Slough tried to gain momentum and in the last minute their captain hit a sweet volley which went millimeters over the crossbar.  With the Wycombe girls breathing a sigh of relief, the final whistle was blown.

P.O.M CHARLEE

Coaches Comments: "It was a great performance.  To score 3 goals, none from leading scorer Su, was very encouraging.  All of our young players stepped up to the plate today - I include Twiggy in that category."
