Wycombe travelled to Bracknell this weekend and were a little unfortuanate to come away with nothing! Wycombe started the match positively and took the lead through a well taken, opportunist goal from Su Oakley. From such a start, the Wycombe girls could have only thought they would leave Bracknell with something to kick start the New Year, pressing at every given opportunity throughout the first 30 minutes. However, in the 35th minute, Su went through on goal only to be denied by a superb save by the Bracknell keeper. Within a minute of this, Wycombe conceded a corner which resulted in the equalising goal. The first half was an even game with both sides creating opportunities, but the half ended 1-1 with neither side being able to add to their tally. The second half was a different affair with Wycombe defending for the majority of the 45 minutes, marshalled well by Esther, backed by a commanding performance from Katie Hudson in the Wycombe goal. The game looked destined to remain at 1-1 with Bracknell unable to break through the Wycombe defence and Wycombe unable to create any real chances. Unfortunately, with 10 minutes remaining, Wycombe conceded a penalty after an unfortunate last ditch tackle by Sophie. Keeper Katie managed to get a hand to the ball but was unable to stop it hitting the back of the net. 2-1. Wycombe pushed up the pitch in an attempt to get an equaliser, but it did not come and Wycombe left Bracknell very disappointed. P.O.M CHARLEE Coaches Comments: "The girls can be very proud of their performance, however, fitness and the fact that we were playing against a quality opposition was always going to be a huge factor." |
