Wycombe travelled away to Oxford United this wekend looking to make it 3 league wins on the bounce, leaving with a scrappy 2-1 victory. Oxford came out with all guns blazing in a bid to deny Wycombe their much hoped for win. Within 5 minutes, a good cross from the right resulted in an easy tap in for their striker. Not the start Wycombe had anticipated! For the next 20 minutes Wycombe struggled to come to terms with Oxfords style of play - their high line and a god competitive midfield made it very difficult. As the half drew to a close, Su Oakley fired in a great shot only to be ruled offside by the assistant ref, much to everyones dismay. Moments later, she could only stand in disbelief as her shot cannoned off the crossbar. Wycombe were again denied when Hannah Wilson, clean through on goal, was denied by a good save from the goalkeeper and blazed over the follow up. With seconds remaining, Su picked up the ball down the left, cut inside and curled a 25 yarder into the top right hand corner leaving everyone stunned and levelling the scores on the stroke of half-time. The second half was a strange affair to say the least - Su had 5 one-on-one chances but just could not hit the back of the net, Leah Asante found herself one-on-one but dragged the ball too wide of the goal for yet another chance going a-begging, and when it looked like it could not get any worse, Hannah managed to miss from only a yard out! It semed like the deadlock would never be broken with Wycombe creating and missing so many chances, but eventually, the injury ridden Su, did break through and finish to give Wycombe the lead they should have had much earlier in the game. In fairness to Oxford, they never gave up and with Wycombe mis-firing, they clearly felt that they may have a chance of snatching victory. Their chance did come but goalkeeper Kristen was quick to get down low to snuff out the danger. The Wycombe defence held fast and the game pettered out with Wycombe collecting the points. Coaches comments: "It was disappointing to miss so many chances. This factor was a cause for concern as right up until the final whistle, victory was in doubt. There were good performances from Tasha, debutant Michelle, Twiggy, and a commanding performance from Hazel. P.O.M Hazel Knight
