Wycombe entertained Launton this weekend and ran out 3-1 winners. The game was played at a very high level with both teams playing some good football throughout the match. Having lost 3 key players to injuries picked up during a midweek friendly, it was a little surprising that coach, Graham Malcolm, opted to play two up front as opposed to the usual lone striker. However, as soon as the game kicked off, it was clear to see that this system was going to help. Wycombe pushed for an early goal and were rewarded when captain for the forseable future, Leah Asante, was put through to slide the ball ino the bottom left hand corner. The early encounters were mainly from Wycombe. With Collette dominating the midfield it was no real surprise when Wycombe increased their lead from a Su Oakley lob over the oncoming keeper. This sparked Launton into life, playing some good attacking football, equalled by a superbly finished goal just before half-time. The second half was an even game with both sides maintaining their high tempo football. A five minute spell saw Su having three shots on goal, each just going over the crossbar, and Leah having an effort saved by the keeper. Launton too had their chances but were denied by great goal-keeping from Katie Hudson. The game looked likely to finish at 2-1 until Su ran onto a through ball and managed to squirm the ball under the keeper to give Wycombe a worthy 3-1 victory. Coaches Comments: "This was a very good team effort with everybody rising to the challenge. Outstanding performances from Leah, Su, Roz and Collette." |
