Wycombe travelled away to top of the league Riverside Strikers knowing that it was going to be one of their toughest, if not the toughest games of the season. With Kirsty withdrawing from the squad due to illness it meant travelling with only 12 players. Despite everything being stacked against the team, Wycombe came away with a well deserved point; attributed to coach, Mr Malcolm's ingenious tactics. Wycombe played a deep game with the defending beginning at the half-way line. Tactically, Riverside played right into Wycombe's hands, being forced into long range shots throughout the first half for the outstanding Katie Hudson to deal with. The home side did manage to break through on goal, and should have gone one up, however the shot was blasted wide. Su also created a great chance for herself only to be thwarted by an outstanding save by the keeper. The first half ended with Riverside having most of the possession, and Wycombe steadfast and sure in what they were trying to achieve. The second half began very much the same and the first half. However, against the run-of-play, Wycombe took the lead - a long ball from Charlee saw Su beating both defender and keeper to cooly slot the ball into a gaping net (55 mins). This was the turning point, with Riverside playing more direct football, raining shots at the Wycombe goal. Wycombe did manage to carve out a great chance as Su ran onto another ball, taking on three players, again being denied by the keeper stopping the ball on the line. Riverside's pressure eventually told when they scored a deserved equaliser in the way of an unstoppable shot into the bottom right-hand corner. After this they threw everything and the kitchen sink at Wycombe for the remaining 10 minutes - hitting the crossbar and causing Katie to pull out two fantastic saves to deny them any chance of victory. Unfortunately for them it was Wycombe's day, picking up a surprised, but never-the-less, deserved point. Coach Graham praised all his players, not only for their commitment, but for their understanding of what was required. It was a great team performance, fuelled by the desire to take something back on the long trip home; Esther's commanding presence, and the way she marshalled the back four, as well as she ever has done, earned her the Player of the Match award.
